The children created their own Magic Potions for Halloween. They used coloured tissue paper and water to create the swirling liquid. Next they added their individual ingredients using pom poms, sequins, googly eyes, etc.

In October, the children learned about artist Paul Klee. They explored the process of making prints using paint and wooden blocks in a variety of shapes.

The children were reminded about the importance of being kind while playing an anti-bullying board game.

The children did lots of work on houses and homes in Ireland and further afield. They all learned to identify which type of home they live in and named the rooms of a house and items of furniture that are typically found in each room.

They also learned about Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. They each drew a pumpkin and finger painted her signature polka dots. The curves of the dots contrast with the straight lines that the children drew in the background.

April 2025: We have been very busy learning about the life cycle of a frog in science. We completed some fantastic explanation writing and also did a drawing tutorial of our very own frogs. It made a beautiful display. We have also been learning about plants and their life cycle. We will be planting our very own plants after the Easter break now that we have learned all about what a plant needs to grow.

February 2025:

We celebrated St. Brigid's Day on the 1st of February by making a traditional St. Brigid's cross. We used rushes to create the perfect crosses.

February 2025:

We celebrated Shrove Tuesday by enjoying some pancakes before Lent begins tomorrow on Ash Wednesday. We used marshmallows, lemon, butter, sugar and chocolate spread to decorate our pancakes. As a class we have given up our Friday treat from teacher and we look forward to enjoying class treats again after Easter!

We had great fun crafting bats to decorate our classroom for Halloween. Each child did a fantastic job and they made the classroom look very spooky indeed! We also made some potions using crepe paper and water. The finished potion was amazing!

Ms. Copes' class has had a lot of fun between golden time and drama. We enjoyed working in small groups to come up with a short drama incorporating our new vocabulary we learned this week. We then got to watch each group perform and had a great laugh!!

Mindfulness

Ms. Copes class participates in mindfulness each morning. This month we are focusing on mindfulness colouring. We listen to relaxing music and colour very mindfully. This helps us feel calm and relaxed before our day of learning begins!

The children took part in so many activities on Sports Day. They did target throwing, dodgeball, a nature hunt, races, football match, javelin throws, penalty kicks and finished with a teddy bear picnic. 2nd class showed great team work skills, well done!

As a school, we ran the distance of a marathon which was incredible. The children really enjoyed running their lap and they did a brilliant job!

Assembly Awards: Congratulations to March’s winners of the monthly classroom awards! Denis and Davide won the awards for honesty. Ayra won the award for taking care of her school books and belongings. Anastasiia won the Gaeilgóir (Irish speaker) award. Well done everyone! Seachtain na Gaeilge: This week we celebrated the Irish language with lots of fun activities. On Monday we had our Ceolchoirm (concert) where all four groups of 2nd class performed songs and poems. On Tuesday we had Céilí dancing in the Pe hall and did the dance ‘An Damhsa Mór’. On Wednesday we had our ‘Maidin Gaelach’ (Irish morning). We played Biongó and spoke as much Irish as we could. On Thursday it was ‘Lá Glas’ (green day) and the children came to school dressed in green with lots of St. Patrick’s Day accessories. We had a great week this week.

February:
Assembly Awards: Congratulations to February’s winners of the monthly classroom awards! Max and Matei won the awards for curiousity. Kalerija won the award for always trying her best in school. Adriana won the Gaeilgóir (Irish speaker) award. Well done everyone! Spring Art: 2nd class created these fabulous paintings which really show that Spring is here. They used vibrant colours and added lovely details which help to brighten up the school hallway. Amazing work!

Hurdles: This week in PE, we used the hurdles which were at different heights. The children worked on their techniques and showed great team work skills to help their team. Following Instructions: We have been looking at procedural writing recently. Ms. Moriarty’s 2nd class wrote instructions about how to draw a heart. They came in to our class with their procedural writing work and stood/sat beside their partner from our class. We followed the instructions that Ms. Moriarty’s pupils gave us and everyone showed great team work skills.

Chinese New Year:

To celebrate Chinese New Year, 2nd class constructed lanterns using yellow and red card and also created dragon masks. The lanterns and dragon symbols are often used during Chinese New Year celebrations. We read about Chinese culture and learned many interesting facts about China.

During Anti-Bullying Week, the whole class designed and coloured a pair of odd socks to show that everyone is special and unique. Ayra’s poster won First Place out of the whole class. She did an incredible job!

Northern Lights:

Using paint, the children blended lots of different colours together to create the Northern Lights. When the background had dried, they used brown and white paint to create trees and snow. They brighten up the hallway and classroom superbly!

Winter Scenes:

The children used paint to create these amazing Winter scenes. They blended blue, white and black paint to create the sky and with a sharpie, they drew details such as trees, birds and stars. They have brilliant artistic skills!

Over the month of October, the children decorated a corner of the classroom with drawings and artwork to make our ‘Halloween Corner’. It really brightened up our classroom!

Halloween Art:
The children created some fantastic Halloween art pieces over the last two weeks. We used clay to create little pumpkins and painted them to look lifelike. The children used cotton buds and glue to create spooky scary skeletons. Lastly, they used tissue paper to make these amazing ghosts. We have incredible art skills in this class!

Autumn Art:

We incorporated the season of Autumn into our art lesson this week. The children created these stunning Autumn trees. They cut brown, red, orange, yellow, green and blue card and stuck them on white card to make the tree, the different colours of Autumn leaves, the grass, and the sky. Very creative work here!

Nature Walk:

In Geography, we were learning about minibeasts and where they might live. Our class went on a nature walk around our school grounds to see what minibeasts we could discover. We looked under plant pots, in hedges, at trees and among stones. The children found beetles, worms, earwigs, slugs, snails, spiders, flies and a ladybug. They recorded what they saw and where they saw each minibeast. It was lovely to explore nature and be out in the fresh air!

September:

PE with Damian:

The children have been really active during our PE sessions with Damian. They have been working on developing teamwork skills, throwing and catching tennis balls, and partaking in relay races. Everyone gave it their all!

Picasso:

We have been learning about Picasso in September and the way he created his amazing art pieces. The children used his techniques to create these ‘Picasso Portraits’. Lots of effort went into these and they turned out fantastic!
